BOWDOIN WOMEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT TRINITY
Hartford, Conn. - Sophomores Jill Falwell (Arlington, Va.) and Michal Shapiro (Newton, Mass.) scored goals to lead the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 2-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s soccer action this afternoon. Trinity’s record is now 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, while Bowdoin improves to 5-3-1 overall and 2-3-1.
Falwell scored the game’s first goal on the first of two assists by senior tri-captain midfielder Alison Lavoie (Nashua, N.H.) with 22:10 remaining in the first half. The game remained 1-0 until Shapiro scored late in the second half to put the game away.
Trinity freshman goalkeeper Brenna Shields (Cutchogue, N.Y.) made 10 saves in a losing effort. Polar Bear senior goalie Emily Rizza (Pennington, N.J.) needed just two saves to record the shutout win, as Bowdoin outshot Trinity, 27-4, and did not yield a Bantam shot in the second half.
