TRINITY WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT AT BOWDOIN
Brunswick, Maine - Senior goalie Sarah Farmer (Vienna, Va.) recorded seven saves and held off a late Trinity rally to help the Polar Bears post a 3-2 victory this afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action.
The Bantams fall to 4-6-1 and 1-5 in the NESCAC with their second heartbreaking league loss in as many days. Bowdoin improves to 8-1-1 and 4-1-1 NESCAC.
The Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game when Molly Perencevich (Concord, N.H.) tapped in a rebound off a Shelly Chessie (Fredericton, N.B.) bid. Trinity tied the affair with 6:37 left in the first half when junior back Anna Sullivan (Bridgewater, Vt.) took advantage of a Polar Bear misplay and fed the ball to freshman midfielder Kate Salottolo (Bethel, Conn.) for the equalizer.
The Polar Bears would take a 2-1 lead into the half 32 seconds later when Lyndsay Sennott (Boxfield, Mass.) took a dish from Jill Falwell (Arlington, Mass.) on a two-on-one break. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Michal Shapiro (Newton, Mass.) provided the third goal when she chipped a ball over Trinity junior goalie Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, Conn.) and into the net for a 3-1 lead.
Bantam freshman forward Lindsay Aquilina (Buffalo, N.Y.) lofted a ball by Farmer and into the Bowdoin net three minutes later to provide the 3-2 final. Bradley ended the game with eight saves for Trinity.
