COAST GUARD MAKES FIRST SHOT
COUNT IN WIN OVER TRINITY
Hartford, Conn. - Freshman forward Olivia Grant (Parkland, Fla.) scored the games only goal on the first-ever shot in the history of the United States Coast Guard womens soccer program to lead the visiting Bears to a 1-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in womens soccer action this afternoon. Coast Guard, playing in its first game as a varsity program, is now 1-0, while the Bantams fall to 0-1-1.
At the 20:26 mark of the game, Coast Guard junior midfielder Sarah Giardina (Baltimore, Md.) stole the ball at midfield and passed it up to Grant, who sped past Trinity junior goalie Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, Conn.) and shot the ball into an open net.
Trinity outshot Coast Guard, 21-4, but freshman goalkeeper Joan Pavlish (Wichita, Kansas) stopped 15 shots and thwarted several other Bantam scoring opportunities on corner kicks and crosses. Bradley made three saves for Trinity.
