WILLIAMS REMAINS PERFECT WITH WIN
OVER TRINITY WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Hartford Conn. - Senior goalie Abi Jackson (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) made 18 saves to lead the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 12-8 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s lacrosse action this afternoon at Robin L. Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 12 in the nation, drops to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC with its third straight loss, while the Ephs, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 6 in the nation, improves to 5-0.
The Bantams jumped out to a 5-3 lead over the first seven minutes thanks to two goals apiece by senior co-captain midfielder Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.) and junior middie Betsy Walsh (North Kingstown, R.I.). Williams netted three quick scores to force a 5-5 tie at intermission, including a beautiful conversion from senior midfielder Kathryn Doherty (Weston, Mass) to junior midfielder Molly Jennings (Greenwich, Conn) with 25 seconds on the clock.
With the Ephs ahead, 8-7, the visitors scored three unanswered goals from the 19:13 mark to the 16-minute mark to take an 11-7 lead. Bowman scored her fourth goal of the game, unassisted, just before the five-minute mark to cut the lead to three, but Williams controlled the ball for the majority of the final five minutes, adding an insurance goal by Jennings with 1:29 left to play.
Trinity sophomore attacker Bea Gratry (Hunting Valley, Ohio) followed Bowman in the scoring column with two goals, while Walsh finished with two scores. Bantam junior goalie Alexandra Benjamin (Weston, Mass.) stopped a career-high 21 shots, as the Ephs outshot Trinity, 38-31. Jennings, Doherty, and senior midfielder Kate Leonard (Yarmouth, Mass.) each scored three times foe the Ephs.
