BOWMAN PROPELS TRINITY WOMEN’S
LAX TO OVERTIME WIN AT WESLEYAN

Middletown, Conn.  – Senior co-captain midfielder Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.) scored a career-high eight goals, including one of two of her team’s goals in overtime, to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 16-14 double overtime win over the Wesleyan University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s lacrosse action this afternoon.

Trinity improves to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the NESCAC, while the Cardinals fall to 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the league.  Trinity has clinched its second straight bid ton the NESCAC Championship Tournament and can earn a home game in the first round with a win against Bowdoin on Saturday along with a loss by Colby in one of its final two games.

In a seesaw battle between two teams battling each other for a home game in the first round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament on Sunday, Bowman scored twice and sophomore attack Beatrice Gratry (Hunting Valley, Ohio) scored once to give the Bantams a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.

After leading, 8-7, at the half, Trinity allowed three straight Cardinal goals to start the second frame and trailed, 10-8, with 24:25 on the clock.  Bowman quickly scored 18 seconds later, and sophomore middie Tracy Nesbit (Wellesley, Mass.) coverted on a free position just before the 20-minute mark to tie the score.

The teams traded goals for the remainder of the game, including a go-ahead score by Trinity freshman Catherine Neil (Longmeadow, Mass.) with 3:59 remaining in regulation and the fifth goal of the game by Wesleyan junior midfielder Martina McPherson (Brookline, Mass.) to force the extra periods with 56 ticks on the clock.  Bowman and classmate Elizabeth Miller (Weston, Mass.) scored for Trinity in overtime to seal the victory.

Bantam junior goalie Alexandra Benjamin (Weston, Mass.) had 16 saves and Cardinal junior goalie Meriel Darzen (Concord, Mass.) stopped 11 shots.  Miller and Cardinal sophomore middie Vanessa Jones (Cumberland, Maine) scored three goals apiece.
