Brunswick, Maine - Senior goalie Julia McCombs (Potomac, Md.) made 10 saves in goal to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 7-4 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon. Trinity finishes the regular season with an 8-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin, ranked No. 5 in New England and No. 19 in the nation, finishes at 10-4 overall and 5-4 in the league.

The Polar Bears and Bantams both qualified for the NESCAC Tournament, which starts Sunday afternoon. Amherst earned the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Trinity. Amherst defeated the Bantams in early April. Fifth-seeded Bowdoin will play at arch-rival and No. 4-seeded Colby. Both games are scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

A defensive struggle in the first half saw the Bantams take a 3-2 lead entering the break when freshman attack Beatrice Gratry (Hunting Valley, Ohio) scored with 1:25 remaining before intermission. The Polar Bears stormed back in the second half, scoring the first five goals of the frame to take a 7-3 lead at 12:14. Sophomore midfielder Elsbeth Pratt (Essex, Mass.) and senior tri-captain attack Kristi Perine (Middlebury, Vt.) had two goals apiece during the run. Gratry paced the Bantam offense with three goals, while senior tri-captain goalie Kelly Jo Burnett (Pennington, N.J.) made eight stops for Trinity.

Defending conference and national champion Middlebury, which posted a 9-0 record in conference play, earned the top seed for the tournament. The three first-round winners will join Middlebury in the conference

tournament semifinals. The Panthers will host the semifinals on Saturday, May 4 and will host the championship game on Sunday, May 5.
