Sports update, Women's lax vs. Middlebury, 4/18/00
TRINITY WOMEN'S LAX LOSES TO MIDDLEBURY
Northfield, MA - The Middlebury College women's lacrosse team, ranked third
in the nation, notched their second NESCAC victory of the season as they
defeated Trinity 19-0; the Panthers outshot Trinity 50-10. This was the
first time Middlebury has shutout their opponent since April 26, 1991, when
they defeated Bates 12-0.
Middlebury was relentless in the first half as they built up a 14-0
lead at the half. Leading the Panthers were sophomore midfielder Julia
Bergofsky and freshman midfielder Char Glessner who each tallied four goals,
while freshman Kate Simpson contributed three goals and an assist. The
bright spot for Trinity came from senior goalkeeper Kate Derosier
(Longmeadow, MA) who had 23 saves on the day.
With the loss the Bantam's record dropped to 3-6 overall. Trinity
next plays against NESCAC rival Amherst on April 22.
