Sports update, women's lacrosse at Colby, 4/7/00
COLBY WOMEN'S LAX SURVIVES TRINITY
Waterville, Maine - Colby senior Nicki Furek (West Hartford, CT) scored two
goals and added three assists in leading the Colby College White Mules to a
14-12 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small
College Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon on Crafts
Field. Trinity loses its fourth in a row to fall to 1-4, while the White
Mules improve to 4-1.
Marcia Ingraham (Georgetown, MA) notched four goals for the Mules.
Senior captain Jess Martin (Alexandria, VA) and junior Quinn Smith (Concord,
NH) had four goals each for the Bantams.
Colby jumped out to an early 5-1 lead just 10:40 into the game when
Lauren Gremelspacher (Granby, CT) beat Bantam senior goalie Kate Derosier
(Longmeadow, MA). The Mules built a seven-goal cushion by the half at 12-5,
but Trinity didn't pack it in. Martin started the second-half scoring just
two minutes in and Smith scored three goals in a row bringing the Bantams to
within three at 12-9.
Sophomore Anna Sullivan (Woodstock, VT) tallied an unassisted goal
at 18:44 prompting a Colby time-out, up just 12-10. Colby junior Angela
Pappas (Gwynedd Valley, PA) scored a goal to stop the Trinity streak and the
Mules traded goals with the Bantams over the final 10:18 for the 14-12
final.
