Sports update, women's lacrosse vs. Bowdoin, 4/29/00
HAWES LEADS BOWDOIN OVER TRINITY
Hartford, CT - Senior co-captain attack Heather Hawes (Westport, MA) scored
four goals to lead the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 10-8 win
over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic
Conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon.
The Polar Bears took a 7-4 lead in the first half as sophomore
attack Kristi Perine (Middlebury, VT) scored two goals and assisted on four
others in the first half. Trinity rallied with consecutive goals late in
the first half by sophomore attacks Anna Sullivan (Woodstock, VT) and Ashley
Taylor (Washington, DC) to cut the lead to 7-6 at halftime.
In the second half, Bantam senior attack Amanda Marsh (Princeton,
NJ) scored from junior midfielder Quinn Smith (Concord, NH) to tie the score
at 7-7. Bowdoin quickly answered with goals by Hawes and senior attackman
Lael Byrnes (Salem, NH) to boost the Polar Bear lead back to two at 9-7.
The teams traded goals to make the score, 10-8, and Bowdoin
controlled the ball the rest of the way. Sophomore Julia McCombs (Potomac,
MD) made nine saves for the Polar Bears, while senior Kate Derosier
(Longmeadow, MA) stopped nine shots for Trinity. Sullivan and Marsh paced
Trinity, which finishes the season at 3-8, with three goals apiece. Bowdoin
is now 9-2.
