TRINITY WOMEN LOSE NESCAC FINALE
AGAINST WESLEYAN ON THE ICE
West Hartford, Conn. –Junior defense Natasha Clauson (Hanover, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal midway into the third period to give the visiting Wesleyan Cardinals a 4-2 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening at Kingswood-Oxford Rink. The loss drops Trinity to 2-12-2 overall and ends its league season at 2-12-2. Wesleyan improves to 6-10-2 overall and 4-9-1 in the NESCAC, clinching a spot in the league championship tournament.
Trinity took a 2-1 lead one minute into the third period on a goal by sophomore forward Michelle O'Neil (Westwood, Mass.), but could not hold on as the Cardinals scored three unanswered goals. Junior tri-captain Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) was impressive in net for Trinity stopping 40 shots on the night and singlehandedly keeping the Bantams in the game. Bantam sophomore forward Kristy Hadeka (Castleton, Vt.) scored the first Trinity goal, knotting the score at 1-1 before 1:30 had passes in the game, and assisted O’Neil on the other Trinity score.
Stacey Orr notched a goal and an assist for the
Cardinals, while junior forward Andrea Snow (Amherst, N.H.) had two
assists, and classmate Elizabeth Courtney (Belmont, Mass.) stopped 21
shots in net.
