TRINITY WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY GIVES MIDDLEBURY A SCARE
West Hartford, Conn. – The Middlebury sister duo of junior defense Amber Neil (Port Crane, N.Y.)and junior forward Erin Neil (Port Crane, N.Y.) each had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Middlebury College Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Kingswood-Oxford Rink. Trinity falls to 4-13 overall and 3-12 in the league, while Middlebury, ranked No. 1 in the nation, improves to 16-1-1 overall and 13-0 in the league with its fifth consecutive victory.
Despite outshooting Trinity,43-9, the Panthers found themselves up just one goal in the final minute after the second goal of the game by Trinity sophomore forward Jillian Nelsen (Albany, N.Y.). The Panthers held on and escaped with the victory, as Panther senior goalie Megan Hutchinson (Windsor, Nova Scotia) needed to make just seven saves. Sophomore goalie Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) kept Trinity in the game, finishing with 40 saves on the day.
