TRINITY WOMENS ICE HOCKEY SUFFERS
LOSS TO SOUTHERN MAINEWest Hartford, Conn. - Senior forward Jill Powers (Beverly, Mass.) had two goals and one assist to lead the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 6-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in Eastern College Athletic Conference women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Kingswood-Oxford rink. Trinity, which had won its first game of the season, 9-0, against MIT last night, falls to 1-8-2 and 1-6-1 in the ECAC. The Huskies improve to 8-3-1 overall and 6-2 in the league with its third consecutive win.
Southern Maine led 3-0, after one period and netted two goals in 1:30 late in the second. At the 17:54 mark of the second frame, Powers netted her first goal, assisted by sophomore forward Amy Mateuwezski (Woonsocket, RI). Mateuwezski claimed her own goal at 18:30, assisted by Powers and junior forward Beth Fulton (Exeter, N.H.). Powers scored her second at the 2:40 mark of the third.
Freshman Meredith McKinnon (Glen Cove, NY) made 45 saves for Trinity in net, while three Southern Maine goalies totaled seven saves over three periods.
