RPI SPOILS TRINITY WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY SEASON OPENER
Troy, N.Y. - Junior forward Andrea Poley (Bourne, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 9:59 remaining in the second period and lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers to a 5-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in Eastern College Athletic Conference womens ice hockey action this afternoon. Trinity is now 0-1 overall and in the ECAC, while the Engineers are 1-0 and 1-0 in the league.
Trinity sophomore forward Lindsay Peet (Stowe, Vt.) scored from classmate Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.) to tie the score at 1-1 with 10:40 to go in the second period, before Poley put RPI back ahead on the first of two assists by freshman forward Deanna Dougherty (Albany, N.Y.). The Engineers went on the score three straight goals.
Freshman Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) stopped 58 shots in her collegiate debut in goal for the Bantams. Senior netminder Lauren DeNuccio (North Oaks, Minn.) had 11 saves for RPI.
