TRINITY WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY BLANKS
MIT FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

West Hartford, Conn. - Freshman forward Sarah Shoukimas (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9-0 win over the visiting Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers in Eastern College Athletic Conference women’s ice hockey action this evening at Kingswood-Oxford rink. Trinity, which wins its first game of the season, improves its record to 1-7-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the ECAC. MIT falls to a 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the league.

In the first period, Trinity netted its first goal by sophomore Jillian Nelsen (Albany, N.Y.). Classmate Kristen Grabowski (Burlington, Conn.) followed at the 14:33 mark of the period, and a minute later, Trinity took advantage of an MIT penalty and scored on a power play goal by sophomore forward Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.).

Trinity’s momentum carried over into the second period, as junior defense Kim Willis (Holyoke, Mass.) began the string of goals for the Bantams. Shoukimas scored her first at the 9:19 mark and in the next 1:30, Grabowski and sophomore forward Lindsay Peet (Stowe, VT) had added unassisted scores for an 8-0 trinity lead. Shoukimas scored two more times to end the period and the game with a hat trick.

Freshman Meredith McKinnon (Glen Cove, NY) made five saves for Trinity in net, while MIT goalie Sara Kaplan (Great Neck, NY) had 43 saves.
