Williamstown, Mass. – Senior guards Kate Stumpo (Walpole, Mass.) and Melissa Skeffington (Woburn, Mass.) scored 17 points each to lead the William College Ephs to a 76-61 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s basketball action this evening at Chandler Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the NESCAC, while the Ephs, ranked No. 9 in New England, improve to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Trinity made just five field goal in the first half in 31 attempts (16.1 percent) and trailed, 36-14, at the break. The Bantams caught fire in the second half, cutting the lead to six with four minutes remaining in the game but Williams made its free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Trinity sophomore forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while classmate Rebecca Bell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 13 points and five boards, and freshman guard Deidre Savageau (Framingham, Mass.) scored 11 points off the bench. Freshman forward Jennifer Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass.) notched five points, 10 rebounds, and four steals for the Bantams. Trinity shot 65.4 percent from the field in the second half (17-26).
