TUFTS DEFEATS TRINITY IN WOMEN’S HOOPS

Hartford, Conn. – Freshman Jessica Powers (Massapequa, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Tufts University Jumbos to an 80-43 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s basketball action this afternoon at Ray oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity fall to 5-11 overall and 0-6 in the NESCAC with its second loss in two days, while the Jumbos improve to 14-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Trinity sophomore forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) led Trinity in scoring with 13 points and added six rebounds and four assists, while freshman forward Jennifer Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass.) added 11 points and six boards.  Trinity shot just 26.4 percent from the field (14-53) and made one three-pointer in 15 tries while committing 27 turnovers.  Six Jumbos finished in double figures in scoring, led by Erin Connolly (Syosset, N.Y.).
