COAST GUARD PULLS AWAY FROM TRINITY WOMEN'S HOOPS IN COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME
Hartford, Conn. - Senior guard Tessa Mueller (Torrington, Conn.) scored 15 of her game-high 17 points on five three-pointers to lead the United States Coast Guard Academy Bears to a 76-55 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in women’s basketball action this evening. Trinity falls to 4-7, while the Bears improve to 5-6 with their first win over the Bantams since 1989.
Coast Guard used a 9-2 run to start the second half and outscored Trinity, 42-23, in the half as the Bears beat the Bantams for the first time in 14 years, 76-55 in a game which was completed following a suspension at halftime due to a power outage on January 14th with Coast Guard leading 34-32.
Coast Guard shot 43 percent in the second half, both from the field (16-37) and from three-point range (6 of 14) while holding Trinity to just 26 percent (8-30) from the field in the half. Bear sophomore forward Lis Bosma (Potomac Falls, Va.) added 16 points for the Bears, who won their second game in as many nights. Sophomore center Rebecca Bell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led Trinity with 13 points while senior captain guard Elizabeth Bontempo (Granby, Mass.) added 12 points and sophomore forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) added 10 for the Bantams.
