ROBINSON AND FURMAN LEAD SWARTHMORE WOMEN’S HOOPS OVER TRINITY

Hartford, Conn.- Junior Katie Robinson (Medfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points, including 16 in the second half, and added seven rebounds and three steals to lead the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet to a 69-54 win over the Trinity College Bantams in women’s basketball action this afternoon at Ray Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 3-4 and the Garnet improves to 8-3.

Swarthmore opened an even game midway through the second half, taking a 49-41 lead on a lay-up by freshman guard Jennifer Stevenson (Dakota Dunes, S.D.), and held at least an eight-point lead the rest of the way.

Trinity trailed, 30-29, at the half after shooting 52.6 percent for the half, but could have led by more if not for 13 turnovers and seven missed free throws in the first 20 minutes.  The Bantams finished with 24 turnovers in the game, and the Garnet held Trinity to 34.8 percent field goal shooting in the second half.

Trinity sophomore forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) had a team-high 16 points, along with six rebounds, while freshman Jennifer Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass.) totaled 14 points and nine boards, and sophomore center Rebecca Bell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 10 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.

Swarthmore senior guard Alison Furman (Wynnewood, Pa.) made six out of 11 shots from three-point range and finished with 20 points, while sophomore guard Allison Wolff (Allison Park, Pa.) had 11 points, eight rebounds, and five steals.
