BATES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
RACES PAST TRINITY

Hartford, Conn. Sophomore forward Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) had 18 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and five assists to lead the visiting Bates College Bobcats to a 73-48 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women’s basketball action this evening at Ray Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity drops to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the NESCAC, while the Bobcats improve to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the league with their second straight win.

Bates controlled the game from the beginning, opening up leads of 12-2, 18-6, and, 27-10, in the first half. Trinity made just five field goals in 19 tries and committed 17 turnovers in the first stanza. Senior tri-captain forward Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) paced the Bobcats, who never led by less then 17 points in the second half, with 22 points and added five assists.

Trinity sophomore forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied a team-high 15 points and seven boards, making nine out of 10 shots from the foul line, while freshman forward Jennifer Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass.) added eight points, a game-high 13 rebounds, and three steals.
