Hartford, Conn. - Junior center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) tallied 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 64-48 victory over the visiting Smith College Pioneers in women’s basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 3-2, while the Pioneers drop to 4-3 with their third consecutive loss.
Trinity rattled off nine unanswered points midway through the first half to take a 21-10 lead, and extended its advantage to 34-20 at the half. Smith narrowed the deficit to seven points at 40-33 with 15:57 to play in the game but failed to pull any closer to the Bantams.
Trinity held the Pioneers to 31.4 percent field goal shooting and forced 22 turnovers. McCloskey made 10 out of 18 shots from the field to account for 20 of her team-high 22 points, and senior co-captain guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) added 15 points. Trinity senior guard Alison Hadden (Drexel Hill, Pa.) dished out six assists and classmate McKenzie Corby (Bethel, Conn.) totaled eight rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Smith sophomore center Amanda Wenczel (Hamilton, N.J.) had a game-high 16 points and classmate Dasen Woitkowski (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored 10 points.
