MCCLOSKEY POWERS TRINITY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO WIN OVER COAST GUARD

Hartford, Conn. - Junior center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) scored a game-high 25 points, sinking 10 out of 17 shots from the field, and added seven boards to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 68-44 victory over the visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Bears in women’s basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 3-1 with its third straight win, while the Bears drop to 0-3.

Trinity broke open an 18-17 game, scoring 21 out of the next 23 points including the half’s last 17. The Bantams held the Bears to a 32.7 percent field goal shooting and a 16.7 three-point field goal shooting percentage for the game.

McCloskey scored 18 of her points in the first half, while Bantam senior co-captain guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched 15 points and six assists and freshman forward Michelle McCaffrey (West Springfield, Mass.) added a team-high 11 boards. Freshman guard Amy Harmel (Davidsonville, Md.) paced the Bears with 14 points and Coast Guard junior forward Kristen VanHaverbeke (Barrington, R.I.) totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds.
