MCCLOSKEY LEADS TRINITY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PAST WPI

Hartford, Conn.- Sophomore center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 74-59 win over the visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers in women’s basketball action this evening. Trinity improves its season record to 5-4 with its second win in three days, while WPI falls to 5-8 with its third straight loss.

Trinity opened up an early lead that stretched to as much as 13 points in the first half, when senior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.) hurled a full-court pass to sophomore guard Shannon Herold (Downers Grove, Ill.) for a layup to make the score 32-19 two minutes before the half.

The Bantams led, 34-22, but the Engineers closed within six points at 38-32 early in the second stanza. Trinity built the lead back to 14 points on a three-pointer from the left corner by Siscone with 3:50 remaining, and made several late free throws to account for the 74-59 final score.

Trinity shot 52 percent from the field for the game and 60 percent (15-25) in the first half. McCloskey made eight of 12 shots from the field, while junior guard McKenzie Corby (Bethel, Conn.) was four of six from the field and five of six from the foul line and Siscone was four of five from the field and made all four of her three-point attempts. Corby finished with 13 points and six rebounds, and Siscone had 12 points and 11 assists. Trinity junior guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) added 12 points and five steals.

Junior forward Rachel Zimet (Trumansburg, N.Y.) paced the Engineers with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals, and made nine of 11 shots from the field. WPI Freshman guard Allison Wing (Brewer, Maine) pitched in with 14 points and four assists, while junior forward Erin Jabs (Preston, Conn.) totaled 14 points and seven boards.
