WESTERN CONNECTICUT HOLDS OFF
TRINITY RALLY IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Danbury, Conn.- Senior forward Arianna Dolock (Charlestown, R.I.) totaled 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to lead the Western Connecticut State University Colonials to a 70-65 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in womens basketball action this evening. Trinity falls to 5-11 and is 0-4 in the NESCAC with its seventh consecutive loss, while the Colonials improve to 8-10 with their third win in the last four games.
Western led by as many as 23 points in the first half, holding Trinity to just five field goals in the first 20 minutes, and had a 41-23 lead at the intermission. The Bantams came storming back in the second half, gradually cutting into the lead until they trailed just one point with 2:21 remaining in the game. Trinity scored five straight points on two free throws and a field goal by junior forward McKenzie Corby (Bethel, Conn.) and a field goal by junior guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) to make the score 63-62 in favor of Western. The Colonials outscored Trinity, 7-3, in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Corby finished with a season-high 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while sophomore guard Shannon Herold (Downers Grove, Ill.) added 10 points for the Bantams. Western junior forward Shanna Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.) tied Dolock for the team-lead in scoring with 15 points, and freshman guard Jessica Capone (Waterbury, Conn.) had 12 points.
