WELLESLEY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
BEATS TRINITY FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
Hartford Conn.- Sophomore center Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and four blocks to lead the visiting Wellesley College Blue to a 64-49 win over the Trinity College Bantams in women's basketball action this afternoon. Trinity, which ends a two-game winning streak, falls to 5-5, while the Blue, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 16 in the nation, improve to 10-1.
The Trinity defense held Wellesley scoreless for the first four minutes, but held just a 4-0 lead over that span. In the next 1:02, Wellesley hit two three-pointers and led 6-4 with 14:58 remaining in the half.
The Blue led 24-15 at the half and extended their lead to 45-23 with a 13-0 run in the second half. Trinity cut the advantage to 11 points at 50-39 with 6:31 left in the game, but Wellesley hit 14 of 17 free throws in the second half and held on for the win.
Wellesley senior guard Shani Delaney (San Francisco, Calif.) had a team-high 15 points, while sophomore guard Katie Lyren (Wadsworth, Ohio) had 12 points and five assists.
Trinity sophomore center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) notched 15 points and 15 rebounds, and senior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.) added 13 points and five assists.
