AMHERST BEATS TRINITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Amherst, Mass. - Freshman forward Sarah Bergman (Shaftsbury, Vt.) and junior co-captain Hallison Putnam (Lexington, Ky.) each turned in strong performances on the offensive end, as the Amherst College Lady Jeffs trumped visiting the Trinity College Bantams, 74-58, in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's basketball action this afternoon.

Trinity falls to 5-12 overall and 0-5 in the NESCAC with its eight consecutive loss, while the Jeffs, ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division III Northeast Region poll, improve to 17-3 and 4-1 in league with their fourth straight win.

Bergman helped the Jeffs jump out to a 31-28 halftime lead with 15 points, hitting on six of her nine field-goal attempts. Early in the second half, a three-pointer from Trinity senior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.) brought the teams even at 42-42 with 11:28 remaining, but the Jeffs went on a 12-3 spurt to take a 54-45 lead with 7:28 to play which they would never relinquish.

Trinity placed three different players in double figures, including Siscone, who finished with a team-high 17 points, adding three three-pointers and a 6-for-6 day at the foul line to her team-best five assists. Sophomore center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) turned in a double-double, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds, before fouling out late in the game, and junior guard Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted 13 points on the afternoon. For Amherst, Bergman and Putnam combined for 40 of the Jeffs' 74 points. Bergman had 23 points, three blocks, and a game-high 12 rebounds in the win, while Putnam finished with 17 points.
