WILLIAMS VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS TRINITY

 

Hartford, Conn.- Sophomore setter Margaret Demment (Woodland, Calif.) had 32 assists and 15 digs to lead the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 3-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in non-conference volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 5-8, while Williams improves to 13-3.

            In the first game, Williams scored five unanswered points to extend its lead to 29-19 en route to a 30-22 win.  Williams went ahead, 9-8, in the second game, and did not trail the rest of the way in a 30-24 win.

            The third game went down to the wire, as Trinity sophomore outside hitter Kate Hunter (Ross, Calif.) was called for touching the net on an apparently successful Bantam kill to give the Ephs a 32-30 win in the game and a 3-0 triumph in the match.  Trinity led, 29-26, before Williams scored four points in a row to go ahead, 30-29.  Trinity tied it at 30-30, but the Ephs were awarded their final two points on points awarded to them by the officials.

            Bantam freshman outside hitter Lucy Hollis (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) had team-highs of 14 digs and 13 kills, along with three blocks. Senior co-captain setter Christine Horton (San Marino, Calif.) added 35 assists and Hunter added seven kills, two aces, and three blocks.  Eph freshman outside hitter Annie Denison (Portland, Oregon) notched 13 kills and 10 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Robin Young (Andover, Mass.) added 13 digs and 10 kills.
