TRINITY VOLLEYBALL LOSES
OPENER AT COAST GUARD
New London, Conn. - Senior Katie Johann (Bayport, N.Y.) had 27 kills, 19 digs and eight aces to lead the United States Coast Guard Academy Bears to a 3-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in volleyball action this evening. The match was the first of the season for the Bantams and the home opener for the Bears. Trinity is now 0-1 and Coast Guard ups its record to 3-1.
The Bantams won the opening game 30-26 before Coast Guard, trailing 21-16 in game two, rallied for a 31-29 win to even the match at 1-1. Coast Guard went on to win the final two games 30-20 and 30-25. Bear senior Maile Norman (Tempe, Ariz.) had 53 assists and 15 digs, classmate Staci Krueger (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 23 digs and sophomore Lis Bosma (Sterling, Va.) added 10 kills for the Bears (3-1).
Senior co-captain setter Christine Horton (San Marino, Calif.) led Trinity with 29 assists, while sophomore outside hitter Kate Hunter (Ross, Calif.) added 11 kills and classmate Charlotte Grassi (Chevy Chase, Md.) made seven kills at opposite hitter for the Bantams (0-1).
