COAST GUARD VOLLEYBALL EDGES
TRINITY IN SEASON OPENER
Hartford, Conn.- Senior co-captain Carrie Kilroy (Redmond, Md.) started the third game with an ace and two kills to lead the visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Bears to a 3-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams in the season-opening volleyball match for both teams this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity, which was playing in its first match under new Head Coach Angela Mills, falls to 0-1, while the Bears improve to 1-0.
Trinity won the first two games, 31-29, and 30-17, but Coast Guard never looked back after Kilroy led them to a 30-26 triumph in the third game. After a narrow, 33-31 win in the fourth game, the Bears took control in the deciding fifth game with a 15-5 victory.
Trinity freshman outside hitter Katherine Hunter (Ross, Calif.) totaled 19 kills, 12 digs, and four blocks in her intercollegiate debut. Junior setter Christine Horton (San Marino, Calif.) had 40 assists and 11 digs and senior outside hitter Kristin Hagan (Kentfield, Calif.) notched 19 kills and 13 digs for the Bantams.
