2000 Volleyball Outlook |
After posting the program's best-ever record at 18-15, the Trinity College volleyball team returns with the passion and the talent to go even further in 2000. A solid core of veterans and a group of talented newcomers should propel the Bantams to another successful campaign.
The 2000 squad will be led by an outstanding junior class, including co-captains Kristin Hagan and Molly Roach, an All-NESCAC Academic selection in 1999, and Beth Landry, an All-NESCAC middle blocker. Hagan is an intense outside hitter with consistent passing and blocking skills. She led the squad in digs last fall with 363. Roach gives the team a big, blocking defender on the right side. Hagan had 202 kills and 200 digs despite nagging injuries last fall. Landry is a versatile athlete and a tremendous leaper as an undersized 59" middle blocker. She is Trinitys best all-around athlete and will be the key to the Bantams offensive attack.
Sophomore setter Christine Horton returns after notching 1,118 assists and 287 digs as a freshman. She improved steadily over the course of the 1999 season. Classmate Isabelle Krusen, a fiery competitor, returns as an outside hitter. She had 339 digs last season. Senior Tina Couch provides depth at both setter and outside hitter, after missing the 1999 campaign. She has been a starter at both positions in her Trinity career.
The Bantams have the talent to contend for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title and a first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in 2000. The juniors must emerge as leaders and the members of the freshman class have to help replace the size and enthusiasm of graduated middle blocker and All-NESCAC Tournament player Harleigh Leach. Trinity will once again play one of the toughest schedules in the New England region as it sets its sights on a record-setting season.
