TRINITY FINISHES FOURTH AT NESCAC
VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONHSIPS
Brunswick, Maine - The Trinity College Bantams dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions, against the Amherst College Lady Jeffs in the semifinals and the Middlebury College Panthers in the third place match, at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament at Bowdoin College this afternoon.
The Bantams, coached by Renee Najarian, finished fourth in the league. Trinity, seeded No. 7 in the tournament field, had advanced to semifinal round with wins over No. 10 Connecticut College, 3-0, and No. 2 Williams, 3-1. Trinity finishes the 2000 season with a 15-18 record.
Against Amherst, Trinity won the opening game, 15-13, but was beaten, 15-7, in the second and third games to fall behind, 2-1. The Lady Jeffs took control in the third game with a 15-2 triumph. The Bantams fell behind, 2-0, against Middlebury, but rebounded to take the third game, 15-12. The Panthers won the deciding game, 15-7, however.
The leagues volleyball coaches selected the 2000 All-NESCAC Team at the Championships. Trinity junior Beth Landry (Troy, Mich.) was named to the 2000 All-NESCAC Second team for the second consecutive season.
