WESTERN CONNECTICUT ROBS TRINITY OF UPSET, SWEEPS SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER

Danbury, Conn. - Sophomore Dez Lanphear (Danbury, Conn.) went 3-for-3 including the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of a three-run seventh inning to lead the Western Connecticut State University Colonials to a 4-3 win in the first game and a sweep of the doubleheader over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in softball action this afternoon.  Western Connecticut took the second game, 13-1.  Trinity drops to 5-16-1 while the Colonials, ranked No. 13 in the nation, improve to 16-5 and improve their winning streak to five straight games.

The Bantams opened the scoring in the first game in the top of the fourth inning on two Colonial errors, an RBI double by senior co-captain Maureen Heneghan (Windsor Locks, Conn.), and a two-run single by freshman Dena Raffa (Shrewsbury, Mass.).  Western Connecticut junior reliever Sarah Zaslaw (Stoughton, Mass.) entered the game with the bases loaded and ended the rally with a strikeout.  Zasalw went on to throw three scoreless innings and earn the win, and tossed a four-hitter in the nightcap for another victory.

Trinity freshman Victoria Moshier (Old Saybrook, Conn.) allowed six hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts in a complete game loss in the first game, while classmate Laura Watson (Carlisle, Mass.) had two doubles in the second game.
