Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Katie Smith (Convent Station, N.J.) drove in the game-tying and go-ahead runs with a two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the visiting Tufts University Jumbos to a 5-1 win in the second game and a sweep of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division softball doubleheader this afternoon. The Jumbos downed the Bantams, 8-0, in five innings in the first game and improve to 9-7 overall and 2-0 for the season, while Trinity falls to 3-9-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Trinity had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth frame, when freshman Lauren Moyer (Bedford, N.H.) doubled home classmate Victoria Moshier (Old Saybrook, Conn.). Moshier also held the Jumbos scoreless for five innings before two doubles and a walk in the sixth resulted in two runs for the visitors. Tufts added three insurance runs in the seventh inning on five hits, a walk, and two passed balls. Freshman Julie Brenta (San Anselmo, Calif.) allowed one run and six hits for the complete game victory on the mound and added three hits for the Jumbos in the nightcap.

Sophomore Caroline Grieco (Manasquan, N.J.) tossed a two-hit shutout over five innings for Tufts in the first game, as the Jumbos scored five runs in the first frame and three in the fifth despite just six hits off Trinity freshman hurler Sarah Churchill (Danvers, Mass.).
