TRINITY SOFTBALL LOSES PAIR
OF GAMES ON OPENING DAY IN FLORIDA
Cape Coral, Fla. - Sophomore OF Rachel Miller (Ottawa, Ill.) drove home the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly during a three-run, seventh inning to lead the Benedictine University Eagles to a 3-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in Trinity's season opening softball game at the Cape Coral Sports Complex this afternoon. Trinity also dropped an 11-0 game in six innings against Fontbonne University to spoil the head coaching debut of first-year mentor Caitlin Luz. The Bantams are 0-2, while the Eagles improve to 2-1 and Fontbonne jumps to 4-0.
Trinity took a 1-0 lead in the second inning against Benedictine when sophomore C Sarah Hoyle (Ansonia, Conn.) drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring senior co-captain Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.). Bantam freshman hurler Victoria Moshier (Old Saybrook, Conn.) held to no runs and three hits over the first six innings but took the loss on the mound in her collegiate debut. Moshier allowed four runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to fall to 0-2 against Fontbonne.
