MOSHIER PITCHES TRINITY SOFTBALL TO
NEEDED WIN IN AMHERST DOUBLEHEADER

Hartford, Conn. - Freshman right-handed pitcher Victoria Moshier (Old Saybrook, Conn.) tossed a four-hit, complete game with four strikeouts to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 6-2 win in the second game and a split of the doubleheader against the Amherst College Lord Jeffs in softball action this afternoon. Trinity moves to 4-13-1 for the season and snaps an 11-game winless streak, while the Jeffs, who took the opener, also 6-2, are now 11-7.

Senior co-captain Maureen Heneghan (Windsor Locks, Conn.) christened the nightcap with a leadoff single off Amherst freshman hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, Calif.), moved to second on a sac bunt and trotted home on an RBI double by fellow senior co-captain Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.).

The Bantams touched Warner for three more runs in the top of the fourth, all unearned, thanks in part to a trio of Amherst errors and a two-run double by rookie Lindsey Freeman (Lancaster, Mass.). Amherst answered with a pair in the bottom of the fourth as senior Missy Mordy (Sammamish, Wash.) singled home Warner and later scored on a muffed throw at home plate.

That was as close as they would get against Moshier, who cruised through the latter innings to seal the win, recording her first collegiate victory. Warner, who tossed a three-hitter in the first game, fell to 11-4 with her first loss in her last 10 decisions. Heath and freshman Laura Watson (Carlisle, Mass.) each doubled home runs in the seventh inning for Trinity. Amherst managed just four hits off Moshier. Heath paced the Bantams with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. Heneghan, senior Susan Kelly (Milford, Mass.) and Freeman added two hits each.

In the opener, Amherst scored four runs in the first inning on five walks and a hit batsman off Trinity sophomore starter Kate Hunter (Ross, Calif.). The Jeffs added two more runs in the third on an RBI double by junior Della Huff (San Rafael, Calif.) and a throwing error that plated senior right fielder Tamara Baer (Amherst, Mass.).

Trinity notched both of its runs in the seventh on a solo home run and the first in her career by Watson and a sac fly by Kelly. Warner carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowed three hits overall and tied a career high with 14 strikeouts. She also paced the offense with a pair of hits, including a leadoff double in the first inning. Moshier pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for Trinity.
