TRINITY SOFTBALL FALLS TO SMITH
Hartford, Conn.- Sophomore Jenna Snyder (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) singled home the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to lead the visiting Smith College Pioneers to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in the post-Florida trip season opener for both teams. Trinity falls to 0-11 with their third one-run loss of the season, while Smith improves to 4-5
Trinity sophomore right-hander Kristi McDermott (Barrington, R.I.) pitched six scoreless innings and allowed three hits, before surrendering three consecutive singles and two runs in the seventh. The Bantams drew first blood in the opening inning when junior Elizabeth Bontempo (Granby, Mass.) knocked in sophomore Maureen Heneghan (Spencer, Mass.) on a fielder's choice. Heneghan had singled to start the game, stolen second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice to move into scoring position.
