BOWDOIN SOFTBALL SWEEPS
TRINITY IN DOUBLE HEADER
Hartford, Conn.- The Bowdoin College polar Bears jumped out to an early lead by scoring three runs in the first and three more in the second inning leading to a 7-1 victory and a sweep of the doubleheader against the Trinity College Bantams in NESCAC softball action this afternoon.
Megan Wardrop (Concord, N.H.), Hillary Smith (Denver, Colo.), and Kristie Miller (North Canaan, Conn.) each scored twice during this offensive outburst by Bowdoin. Bowdoin’s winning pitcher Erin Hanley (Foxboro, Mass.) completed the game with only five hits given up.
The second game proved to be much closer, ending in the eighth inning with Bowdoin on top 1-0. Trinity’s pitcher, Lauren McDowell (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.), took the loss in a complete game effort, while Gina Laugelli (Long Branch, N.Y.) of Bowdoin claimed the victory after relieving Jessie Poulin (Hampden, Maine) in the fifth inning. Bowdoin’s sole run was scored by Erin McDonough (South Portland, Maine) on a single to right field by Smith in the first inning of extra play.
Trinity falls to 1-13 overall and 0-2 in the NESCAC on the year, while the women of Bowdoin improved their record to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
