Sports update, softball vs. Tufts (2), 4/8/00

TRINITY SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH TUFTS

Hartford, CT - Freshman leftfielder Kelly Kempner (Amherst, NY) hit a
two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a
4-2 win in the first game and a split in the doubleheader with the visiting
Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference
softball action this afternoon.  Trinity, which lost the second game, 19-1,
is now 5-15, while Tufts is 9-9.
	Trinity junior third baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) had an RBI
double and junior shortstop Tricia Mase (Northford, CT) had two hits in the
opener, and freshman Kristi McDermott (Barrington, RI) tossed a five-hitter.
Tufts sophomore pitcher Jodie Moreau (Clarksburg, MA) struck out three and
allowed eight hits while notching an RBI single at the plate.
	The Jumbos pounded both starter Heather Standring (Spencer, MA) and
McDermott in the game two, led by sophomore first baseman Tiffany Trahan
(Chelsmford, MA) and Lis Drake (Chelmsford, MA) who both homered twice.
Senior co-captain outfielder Cloe Axelson (Wethersfield, CT) and junior
co-captain catcher Randee McArdle (East Nassau, NY) also homered for the
Jumbos, while Trinity sophomore infielder Elizabeth Bontempo (Granby, MA)
had a pair of hits.
