Sports update, softball at Coast Guard, 4/6/00


COAST GUARD BEATS TRINITY SOFTBALL

New London, CT - Freshman shortstop Sarah Carter (Welaka, FL) hit a two-run,
pinch-hit single in a five-run fifth inning to lead the United States Coast
Guard Academy Bears to a 7-2 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams
in softball action this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 4-14 with its fourth
straight loss, while Coast Guard improves to 10-8.	
	Frsehman pitcher Jill Dauphinais (Rutland, VT) picked up her first
career win in relief for the Bears, allowing two hits in 2 and two-thirds
innings.  Senior catcher Caitlin Luz (Woburn, MA) had three hits, including
a two-run double in the seventh inning for Trinity.  Bantam junior third
baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) added a pair of singles.
