Sports update, softball vs. Amherst (2), 4/1/00

TRINITY SOFTBALL LOSES TWO CLOSE GAMES AGAINST AMHERST

Hartford, CT-   Senior Darcy Sweeney went 7 for 8 for the day to lead the
visiting Amherst College Lady Jeffs to a sweep of the Trinity College
Bantams in a New England Small College Athletic Conference softball
doubleheader this afternoon. 
	In the first game, Sweeney collected three singles and a double and
catcher Megan Nelson had two singles, a double, and an RBI.  Righthander
Lauren Peloquin recorded 10 strikeouts and had an RBI single at the plate.
Junior third baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) doubled for the Bantams.
	Despite a spirited comeback bid in the bottom of the fifth inning,
Trinity lost a heartbreaker in the second game on an RBI single by Lord Jeff
senior co-captain Liza Feldman in the top of the seventh.  Stanton,
sophomores Liz Bontempo (Granby, MA) and Clare Bullock (Columbia, SC), and
freshman Maureen Heneghan (Windsor Locks, CT) singled in the fifth during
the Trinity two-run rally to tie the game.
	With the losses, the Bantams fall to 4-12 while the Lady Jeffs
improve to 15-2.
