TRINITY'S RIVAL REPEATS
AS NEW ENGLAND PENTATHLON CHAMPION

Waltham, Mass.- Senior co-captain Amanda Rival (Berlin, Conn.) won the indoor pentathlon for the second consecutive year to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 12th-place finish in the NCAA Division III New England Championships this afternoon at Brandeis University.

Rival achieved a score of 3,310 points in the five events, including a first-place performance in the high jump where she cleared a height of 5-foot-6 inches, which was 366 points higher than the second -place athlete. Her height in the high jump qualifies Rival provisionally for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Fellow senior co-captain Marisa Eddy (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.15, and junior Beth Landry (Troy, Mich.) leaped a distance of 10.41 m to claim seventh place in the triple jump for the Bantams. Rival, Eddy, and Landry all earn All-New England honors for their performances. Eddy and Rival have earned All-New England in each of the last four seasons, while Landry was All-New England in the long jump as a freshman.

Eddy also teamed with sophomore Kate Klein (Huntington, Vt.) and freshmen Liz Brown (Belmont, Mass.) and Karen Roy (Ashford, Conn.) to place sixth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 958.26. The foursome also earn All-New England recognition. Klein was All-New England last winter as part of the Bantam distance medley relay squad.
