TRINITY DOUBLES TEAM FINISHES AS NATIONAL RUNNERS-UP
Memphis, Tenn. - Trinity College senior co-captain Rostyslav Orach (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Richard Lawrence (Toronto, Ontario) advanced to the finals of the Rolex National Small College Tennis Championships at Rhodes College and the Racquet Club of Memphis, but dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision in the finals.
Orach/Lawrence defeated defending champions Sloan Rush and Ed Rahn, of Trinity University (Texas), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in the semifinals, and ousted Kayvon Fatahalian and Jon Hui, of Carnegie Mellon University, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round. With the first round win, Orach and Lawrence were selected as Rolex All-Americans.
Orach/Lawrence lost to Derek Fitzpatrick and Nick Cunningham, of Cal.-Santa Cruz, in the finals. The Trinity duo finishes the fall season as No. 2 doubles tandem in Division III men's tennis.
In singles, Orach defeated Nick Crossley, of Gustavus Adolphus, 6-4, 6-1,to win the fifth-place match, after having disposed of Matt Rutherford, of Capital University, 6-4, 6-1, in the consolation semis.
