DEROSA SWIMS AND DIVES TRINITY
PAST WPI IN FINAL MEN'S DUAL MEET
Worcester, Mass.- Sophomore Matthew DeRosa (Setauket, N.Y.) finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle, and won the one-meter diving in his first collegiate appearance on the board, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 120-100 win over the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers in men’s swimming and diving action this afternoon at Clark University. The Trinity men close the dual season with two wins to finish 2-8.
DeRosa and freshman teammate James Marvel (Holyoke, Mass.) helped Trinity outscore the diverless Engineers, 22-0, while senior co-captain Jesse Hammond (New London, Conn.) and freshman Christian Greer (Fairfield, Conn.) each won a pair of events. Hammond took the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and Greer won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events. Hammond, Greer, freshman Chris Swanson (Wellesley, Mass.), and senior co-captain Ryan Bares (New Hartford, Conn.) sealed the triumph with a first-place time of 3:28.08 in the meet-ending, 200-yard freestyle relay.
