TUFTS DEFEATS TRINITY IN SWIMMING

Medford, Mass.- Junior Jesse Hammond (New London, Conn.) and
freshman Kate Mortensen (Bedford, N.H.) won the 50-yard freestyle and the
100-yard backstroke, respectively, in a losing effort as the visiting
Trinity College Bantams were defeated by the Tufts University Jumbos in
men's and women's swimming and diving action this afternoon.  The Tufts men
defeated Trinity, 112-70, and the women were victorious, 119-93.  The Bantam
men drop to 0-5 and the women fall to 1-5, while the Jumbo men improve to
6-0 and the women move to 5-0.  Hammond finished the 50-yard free in 23.11
s, and Mortensen finished the 100-yard back in 1:06.81.
