Lewiston, Maine - Bates College defeated Trinity College in both the men's and women's swimming and diving season opening meets for both teams this afternoon. Both the Trinity women's squad, which lost 219-79, and the men's team, which lost, 209-89, are 0-1 in dual meets. The meets were the coaching debut of Trinity Head Coach Kristen Noone.

Sophomore Chris Rorer (Villanova, Pa.) finished first in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes for the Trinity men. Bantam senior tri-captain Chris Nicholas (Seekonk, Mass.) won the 200-yard backstroke and freshman Adam Casavant (Acton, Mass.) won the 100-yard backstroke in his collegiate debut.
