TRINITY MEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT
EASTERN CONNECTICUT IN OVERTIME
Willimantic, Conn.- Sophomore forward Josh Waller (Canterbury, Conn.) scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in overtime, to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 4-3 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in men’s soccer action this afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field. Trinity drops to 4-4-1 overall with its second straight loss, while the Warriors improve to 4-12 with their second win in a row and their first win against Trinity in the last seven games.
Waller netted the gamewinner off a deflected ball from 15 yards away into the lower right corner of the net 5:43 into the first overtime. The Bantams had forced the extra frame on a header by junior midfielder Chris Walther (Palisades, N.Y.), which was set up by a nice cross from senior midfielder Nick Lombardi (New Boston, N.H.).
The teams played a scoreless first half before the flood gates opened in the second half, and neither team held more than a one goal lead at any time during the game. Trinity scored first on an own goal by the Warriors in the 47th minute. After an Eastern Connecticut goal by Waller five minutes later, Trinity junior back Tim Cross (Marblehead, Mass.) headed in the second Bantam goal from sophomore midfielder Ramon Bell (Kingston, Jamaica) 7:10 into the second half. Bantam sophomore goalie Jamie Burns (Minnetonka, Minn.) had six saves and two keepers stopped six Trinity shots in the Warrior goal.
