BIRNBAUM POWERS TRINITY MEN'S SOCCER
TO VICTORY AT JOHNSON AND WALES
East Providence, R.I. - Sophomore forward Aaron Birnbaum (Newton, Mass.) scored two goals and assisting on another to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 4-1 victory over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats in men's soccer action this afternoon at Pierce Stadium. Trinity, which has won four of its last five games, improves to 4-3. The Wildcats drop to 3-7-1.
Birnbaum opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting a perfect pass from junior co-captain forward Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) for the first goal. Birnbaum returned the favor only six minutes later, feeding Sandell on a corner kick for the second Bantam strike. Bantam sophomore Jared Rubin (Wellesley, Mass.) buried his first career goal in the 39th minute to extend the lead to 3-0.
Johnson and Wales got on the board just after halftime with a goal by senior forward Milton Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), but Birnbaum struck again :23 later on a penalty kick. Bantam freshman goalie Jamie Burns (Minnetonka, Minn.) had five saves, while junior keeper Trevor Foden (Riverhead, N.Y.) made five saves for the Wildcats.
