ZIADIE AND SANDELL POWER TRINITY
MEN'S SOCCER PAST BATES
Hartford, Conn. - Junior co-captain Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, Conn.) had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity, which has won two games in a row and recorded both its losses in overtime, improves to 2-2 and 2-1 in the NESCAC, while Bates falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Bates got on the board first in the 16th minute on a shot by senior forward
Drew Weymouth (Holden, Mass.) from 12 yards out on an assist from
junior midfielder Josh Myer (Los Angeles, Cal.). Trinity answered
just over five minutes later when junior Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, Conn.) shot
a rope into the upper corner from 25 yards out past Bates senior keeper Dan
Spector (Framingham, Mass.).
Trinity scored the eventual game winner on a blast from a rookie combination of
a Ramon Bell (Kingston, Jamaica) pass to John Ziadie (Kingston,
Jamaica), who sent it home on a one-time shot from the penalty spot. Junior Morgan
Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) added an insurance goal in the final minute of the
first half when he deflected home a shot by Zoppi.
Spector made five saves for Bates in the losing effort, while sophomore Mike
Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) had four stops for Trinity.
