TRINITY MEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS BATES

Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Timothy Cross (Marblehead, MA) and sophomore Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, MA) scored goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 win over the visiting Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s soccer action this afternoon.

Trinity wins its first game of the season and is now 1-1-2 and 1-1 in the NESCAC, while Bates, which was ranked No. 3 in New England and No. 24 in NCAA Division III, falls to 3-1 and 1-1 in the league.

Cross scored 3:40 into the game and Sandell found the net on a pass from senior Steven Rovithus (Agawam, Mass.) at the 13:30 mark to give Trinity an early 2-0 advantage. Bryan Stevens (Southwick, Mass.) cut the lead to 2-1 with 18:48 remaining, but neither team could score the rest of the way.

Trinity goakeeper Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, PA) made seven saves for Trinity, while Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) made eight saves for the Bobcats.
