Conn. – Junior goalie Eric
Krieger (Princeton, N.J.) made nine
saves while allowing just three goals in the first half to lead the visiting
Middlebury College Panthers to an 18-7 win over the Trinity College Bantams in
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse action
this afternoon at Robin L. Sheppard Field.
Trinity, ranked No. 9 in New England, falls to 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the
NESCAC with its third straight loss, while the Panthers, ranked No. 1 in New
England and No. 4 in the nation, improve to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the league
with their sixth consecutive victory.
Fourteen different players scored for Middlebury, as the Panthers controlled play throughout. Middlebury outscored the Bantams in every period, although Trinity kept the game close early in the first half. Trinity trailed 5-3 midway through the second period, but Middlebury netted eight straight goals to lead, 12-3, after three quarters.
Trinity senior tri-captain attackman Ravi Pillay (Falls Church, Va.) paced the Trinity offense with two goals and one assist, while senior tri-captain Mike Frissora (Syracuse, N.Y.), junior middie Greg Bastis (Old Greenwich, Conn.), freshman attackman J. P. Coviello (Summit, N.J.), and senior attackman Brian Gault (Vienna, Va.) notched two goals apiece for Middlebury.
Krieger
yielded to sophomore backstop Ned Courtemanche (New Vernon, N.J.) at the
half, and Courtemanche made five saves while holding Trinity scoreless until the
fourth quarter. Bantam junior Geoff
Shaw (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Jakob Isbrandsten (Greenwich, Conn.)
combined for nine saves in goal.
