TRINITY MEN’S LACROSSE SEASON COMES
TO A DISAPPOINTING END IN MAINE

Brunswick, Maine  – Senior attackman Kyle Courtiss (Duxbury, Mass.) scored a scored a team-high three goals, including two in a pivotal, five-goal second quarter, to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to an 11-8 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse regular season finale this afternoon.

Trinity finishes the season with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the NESCAC with its fourth straight loss, while the Polar Bears close the regular campaign at 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the league.  Trinity fails to qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament with the loss, while Bowdoin earned a bid to the tourney with the win.  The Polar Bears, which snap a two-game losing streak will play its NESCAC First Round game tomorrow at Tufts at 1 p.m.

With the game, which served essentially as a NESCAC Tournament play-in game, tied at two apiece after one quarter of play, the Polar Bears exploded for four straight goals to start the second period, including two from Courtiss, to take a 6-2 lead late in the half. Trinity senior tri-captain attack Ravi Pillay (Falls Church, Va.) scored two goals for Trinity late in the quarter, however, as Bowdoin took a 7-4 edge into intermission.

In the third period, Bantam freshman midfielder Coly Smith (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) scored twice within a five minute span to end the period, including a tally with 2.3 seconds remaining to cut the Bowdoin lead to 8-6.

The Bantams came out firing in the final frame as Pillay found the back of the net to start the fourth and at 8:27 freshman midfielder Nick Petri (Framingham, Mass.) did the same, as Trinity deadlocked the contest at 8-8. The tie was short-lived, though, as Polar Bear freshman midfielder Andy Nelson (Marston Mills, Mass.) drove down the field and fed classmate Connor Fitzgerald (Hingham, Mass.) for the game-winner just 16 seconds later, stopping Trinity's momentum and starting a 3-0 run to close the contest for Bowdoin.

Junior Grant White (Charlottesville, Va.) made 12 saves for Bowdoin, while junior Geoff Shaw (Charlotte, N.C.) stopped 11 shots for Trinity. Courtiss had three goals, while Fitzgerald had one and three assists for Bowdoin. Trinity was led by three goals and an assist from Pillay.
